Establish a Parliamentary Commissioner to enforce the Lobbyists Register and Lobbying Code of Conduct (PER683)

Summary of proposal

This proposal would establish an independent Parliamentary Commissioner who would be responsible for maintaining and ensuring compliance with the Register of Lobbyists and the Lobbying Code of Conduct.  

This proposal would also expand compliance activities under the Lobbying Code of Conduct to ensure that the Code is complied with.

This proposal would have effect from 1 July 2019.

Summary of proposal

This proposal has ten components.

Component 1: Provide $10 million per year (unindexed) in ongoing grant funding to support
community‐led programs to counter violent extremism.

  • Departmental costs would be met from within this capped amount.

Component 2: Extend the current National Anti‐Racism Strategy delivered by the
Australian Human Rights Commission by providing $12 million per year to community
organisations for programs to create awareness of racism and empower communities to
prevent it.
